Case Statement Woes

I have the case statement below and when the processing runs (set
transname=(case stmt...) or insert into table (col1,col2...) select col1,case
stmt from anothertable, the processing from within the part of the case
statement that is below the "when isnull(trans_id,0)=1105" runs, it does not
process the statements inside the case within the case. I suspect I have
committed an error but I can't pin it down. Help appreciated.

Are you sure it's not processing the expressions inside the case expression?
I changed the 'Undefined' there to 'Undefined-2' to find out for sure. Look
at the expressions in that CASE expression and see if they can be True at
any point; for instance, if tLoc_ID is NULL and floc_id is NULL, it will
drop through to the ELSE. If those criteria aren't exactly matched, then
you can expect it to drop through to the ELSE.

Looks like I am looking in the wrong place. I appreciate the help. I think
I can forget about it from this end of the problem. The other records with
nulls show up just fine as 'Undefined-2'

Looks like I am looking in the wrong place. I appreciate the help. I think
I can forget about it from this end of the problem. The other records with
nulls show up just fine as 'Undefined-2'

This query runs ok: SELECT Mission FROM tblProviders WHERE ProviderID =

Capturing Mysterious Truncation/deletion of a table

I have a dts which creates a table which is utilized on my local
intranet. The DTS runs without error and the table is
created/populated/transfered to the appropriate db. Then it appears
that there is an action on this table which truncates it. I have been
unable to determine the culprit. Can I create a trigger that will
capture truncation? I have tried to create a trigger to capture this
information but none that I attempt seem to work on capturing a
truncation or a drop table and re-create.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi MT,

In SQL Server 2000, there is no way to monitor either truncation or
dropping of a table using triggers. You'll have to use Profiler to find
out who/what is destorying your data.

You can add a trigger FOR DELETE on the table, that will capture the
the truncation happens through DELETE.

However, the trigger will not catch if the table is emptied by
TRUNCATE TABLE or DROP TABLE + ALTER TABLE. One way you can handle
this is to add a table that has a foreign key referencing this table.
This will cause TRUNCATE TABLE and DROP TABLE to fail.

Have you examined the possibility that the reason the data disappears
is because there is a transaction that is not committed, so the
population of the table is simply rolled back?
